Visiting from Cumbria, Francis Lloyd-Jones is leading a masterclass that will focus on the looseness that throwing on the wheel can offer. Within his own work Francis looks for pots that sit between looseness and definition, and this will be the framework for the course, throwing and altering clay using various methods.

Over two sessions, 4 hours on Saturday afternoon and 6 hours all day Sunday, participants will be guided through exercises in distorting and manipulating thrown forms, embracing wobbles and gaining an understanding of the relationship between control and release, where soft meets firm.

The course is designed for those with some confidence on the wheel in mind.

All materials and firings are inclusive with the price of the workshop, and you will be contacted in the weeks after your final session once your works have been fired.

Francis Lloyd-Jones is a potter based in Cumbria, teaching part time for Grizedale Arts and running the pottery for their current project The Farmer Arms where he makes his work. Initially studying pottery in Thomastown, Ireland on the Ceramics Skills and Design Course, he then was apprentice to Lisa Hammond MBE from 2018-2021. He is a selected member of The Craft Potters Association.
