Grace McCarthy: Enrapture

We are delighted to host Grace McCarthy for a masterclass in lidded forms that will see her demonstrate a variety of ceramic techniques informed by Kurinuki, the traditional Japanese method of carving from a single block of clay. Over two sessions, each lasting 3 hours, Grace will guide you through her own artistic process using exercises both on and off the wheel that will combine traditional techniques with the cutting and a reassembling of clay.

This masterclass is designed for anyone who is already working with clay and looking for insight into different ways of making and will give you the opportunity to make new work in an open and inclusive environment.

All materials and firings are inclusive with the price of the workshop, and you will be contacted in the weeks after your final session once your works have been fired.

Grace McCarthy has been making for the past decade and comfortably straddles the line between functional ceramics and sculpture. A Clay College Stoke Alumni (2019) she has worked collaboratively with artists such as Phoebe Collings-James, was an artist-residence at Guldagergaard, Denmark (2022) and is currently making work from Excelsior Studios in London.
